Grapeseed oil is a great carrier oil for cosmetics because it does wonders for your skin. It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to treat acne, tightens oily skin, moisturizes, and is a great anti-wrinkle serum. Vanilla is used to soothe burns, is an aphrodisiac, treats acne and has anti-aging properties as well. Patchouli soothes inflammation, is an antiseptic, and is also an aphrodisiac. Orange oil helps decrease wrinkles, improves your complexion and does wonders for easing anxiety. It is also used to help fight chronic fatigue, depression, and low libido. Alkanet Root is an astringent and commonly used in cosmetics as a dye because of the red pigmentation.

Lupercalia Oil

Tools:

  • small glass mixing bowl
  • metal spoon
  • eye dropper if you essential oil bottle doesn’t have a dropper
  • 3 oz glass bottle

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp Carrier Oil of your choice (I used grapeseed oil)
  • 16 drops Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 8 drops+ Patchouli Essential Oil
  • 8 drops Orange Essential Oil
  • 48 drops (1/2 tsp) Alkanet Root Oil*

Directions:

Start by measuring out your carrier oil into your container, make sure that there is plenty of extra room at the top for your other ingredients. Pour the carrier oil into a small glass mixing bowl, add the vanilla and orange essential oils and mix. Then add 2 drops of Patchouli, mix, and then test. If you want more patchouli scent then work your way up to 8 drops or until your desired scent.

Patchouli can be a very over powering scent for many people, so it is best to use the smallest amount (1-2 drops) and work your way up after you have mixed together the rest of your ingredients and add more as wanted. You can stop here or add the Alkanet Root until it has reached the desired color. Pour the mixture back into your container and you are ready to use your Lupercalia Oil as a perfume or massage oil with your partner.

*Alkanet Root Oil can be made my infusing the carrier oil of your choice with the herb. This means soaking the herb in oil for 2-6 weeks in a dark cool place and then strain out the herbs and its ready for use.
