Book Review: The Green Witch Pt 3. Notes From The Margins

Notes From The Margins: My Thoughts & Scribbles While Reading “The Green Witch”

Have you been wondering whether or not to read The Green Witch: Your Complete Guide to the Natural Magic of Herbs, Flowers, Essential Oils, and More, by Arin Murphy-Hiscock

Here is my 3 Part Book Review! You’re reading part 3 of 3. I LOVE this book! It’s not too woo wooey, and has a basis in the real world. It also explains what the Green Witch Path is in such a beautiful modern way.

This is a little bit of a witchy book review. I have finally finished The Green Witch: Your Complete Guide to the Natural Magic of Herbs, Flowers, Essential Oils, and More, by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.

Today I wanted to share with you one of my notes from the margins. This book is full of my thoughts, ideas, scribbles and stars of what I want to try in the margins. I have a rather lengthy note at the back of this book of some things that I realized while reading The Green Witch, and I’d like to share it with you…

“It’s all about the mind and associations you have with things. Change the way you think about anything and the way it affects you changes. To me magic is just a different list of associations and ways of looking at things. There is no power in magic. The power is in you and how you think about things. And how you let, or don’t let them affect you. It’s all about perspective. What you put trust, stock, and belief in, becomes true. Stop all of that, and it no longer is true for you, and no longer affects you.”

Jenny Proczko from Owls&Indigo

For me magic is about the art of positive change. It’s not about spells and hexes and woo woo things that are really far out there. For me my practices are really grounded in reality and mindset. If you can change your mind, then you can change your circumstances and your situation. I found with my mental health struggles that this is really true.

Before I was at a point where I was not able to change my mind and I needed help. I needed the additional support of a therapist and a doctor. Now I’m at the point where I can actually take this advice and run with it! I can actually do these things for myself! I can change my mind when I need to! AND that doesn’t mean that my depression is cured. I definitely have had relapses. It’s hard. It’s really hard.

I don’t want people to think that books about witchcraft and magic are going to worsen your depression, make you delusional or crazy, because I don’t really find that that’s true. I like to look at texts like this as a way to change your perspective. I talk about that a lot. If you can change the lens through which you view something, you might be able to find a way out. AND you might be able to change your circumstances for the better.
